Businessman Marries Off 50 Girls In Yobe (Photo)
A business man, Mohammed Yakubu Jacob, yesterday married off another set of 50 less privileged girls in Gashua town, Yobe State.
This is coming a month after he married off 40 internally displaced girls, which attracted thousands of well-wishers.
Our correspondent, who was at the wedding, reports that the ceremony was held under the guardianship of Emir of Gashua, Alhaji Abubakar Umar Sulaiman, at his palace mosque in Gashua.
The girls were mostly daughters of internally displaced parents, orphans, and less privileged people who had suitors but could not have the means to marry them off.
Speaking at the event, the Emir of Gashua said all the couples had undergone genotype, HIV, and pregnancy tests.
He said the brides and grooms had been screened religiously to avert any chance that would invalidate their marriages.
“We went to the extent of training these girls in different trades to make them self-reliant. That is why we came up with a council that would settle dispute between the couples, if any, because we would not tolerate divorce until necessary.”
He thanked the businessman for relieving the parents of a ‘huge’ burden, while appealing to the well-to-do to extend similar gesture.
“Because these girls are due for marriage, they have suitors, but the parents have no money. This man did all the necessary things needed,” he said.
Fielding question from Daily Trust, the businessman said he had received endless calls from girls to help them get married after he married off the first batch few months ago.
“These girls will call me crying for help that their parents have no means to marry them off. I know how it feels for a father to have a grown up daughter that is due for marriage but he does not have money to do that. Some of the girls even lost their parents and I don’t want their dream to remain unfulfilled,” he said.
One of the brides, Aisha Muhammad, thanked the businessman for making her dream come true
6 Selling Practices To Be A Good Salesman/woman
Selling is a tedious and rewarding job at the same time. When a salesman
knows how to go about his job effectively and efficiently, the sky will
be his limit as he will achieve a lot financially and career wise.
Sales are the life wire of every business and as clearly stated by Samuel Watson: “nothing happens until someone sells something”. The statement simply says every other activity and continuity of a business relies on the inflow of revenue from sales. Therefore the art of selling is very important and should be understood and mastered.
A salesman or a business owner that intends to maximize sales and generate revenue should practice the following selling steps:
Have Product/Service Knowledge
This is very important as you cannot offer what you have no information about to your potential customers. The knowledge should be a totality of how your product/service functions, its importance, its unique selling proposition, the industry you are operating and other firms with alternative offering competing with yours.
Prospecting
Try to know the persons or organization that will likely patronize your business, you should also have in mind the 20/80 rule as the big buyers are always within the 20, you should work more towards winning them and also on the 80 too.
Relationship and Trust
A salesperson should have people skill and be able to freely discuss on several subjects, he/she should be very professional in appearance and conduct to be able to win prospects trust and friendliness. The ability to listen is very important as customers need(s) can be easily known through listening.
Presentation
Matching needs through presentation after listening and knowing exactly what the prospect needs is very crucial and should be done convincingly with understandable features and benefits of your product/service.
Answer Objection Questions
Customers have questions and doubts about why they should patronize your business. Answer these questions in the most convincing manner and give social proofs of your existing customers if you have to and also bring forth your unique selling proposition (USP).
Close Selling
This is the concluding part of the whole process. Always try to bring this forward after objections are tackled and your potential customer is convinced. Politely ask to get his/her order and then deliver quickly at the best possible time and provide after sales services to pave way for further businesses and referrals.

6 Health Benefits Of Coconut Water
It’s delicious, refreshing, contains many nutrients and has amazing
health benefits. Jumia Travel, the leading online travel agency, shares 6
health benefits of coconut water.
Rehydrates the Body
Coconut water is a great thirst quencher and because of its electrolyte composition, it helps to rehydrate the body in the event of dehydration and fluid loss through diarrhea, vomiting or excessive sweating. It’s also a great source carbohydrate, helps lift energy levels and helps soothe tummy troubles like indigestion, acid reflux and gastroenteritis.
Helps to Control Blood Pressure
Coconut water is great for lowering high blood pressure because of its vitamin C, potassium and magnesium content. The potassium, in particular, helps to lower blood pressure by balancing out the negative effects of sodium in the body. A cup of fresh coconut water twice a day will give the best results.
Helps with Weight Loss
Coconut water is ideal for weight loss because it’s low in calories and easy on the stomach. It contains various bioactive enzymes that aid digestion and boost fat metabolism. The potassium contained in coconut water helps to balance out sodium levels in the body which reduces water retention and prevents the gaining of water weight. Coconut water, aside from reducing water retention, helps to flush out excess water and toxins from the body. A glass of fresh coconut water, 3 to 4 times a day, is great for facilitating weight loss.
Great for the Skin
It’s no wonder that a significant number of hair and beauty products like facial creams, shampoos, conditioners and lotions boast of coconut extracts. Coconut water is great for the skin. It helps to moisturize the skin from within when ingested orally and eliminates large amounts of oil. Applying fresh coconut water to acne and blemishes also goes a long way in helping to clear them up and subsequently tone the skin.
Helps Digestion
Coconut water is a source of relief for digestive troubles like indigestion and acid reflux. This is because of its high concentration of fiber and how light and easy it is on the stomach. It aids in preventing indigestion and reducing the occurrence of acid reflux.
Balances pH Levels
Acidic pH levels typically cause low energy and interfere with the body’s ability to absorb vitamins and minerals. Stress, toxic load and a diet high in acid-forming foods like processed fast foods are some of the causes of acidic pH levels. Coconut water has an alkalizing effect that helps to lower acidic levels and restore a healthy pH in the body.
Warning: It is ill-advised to include coconut water in your diet if you have been diagnosed with high potassium levels, have kidney dysfunction or kidney related problems and if you are about to have a surgery. Coconut water might not be suitable for those with nut allergies and may cause bloating and mild stomach upset in some people.

6 Things You Should Know About Your Cholesterol Level
You’ll be surprised how little people know about something as important
as their cholesterol level. Jumia Travel, the leading online travel
agency, shares 6 things you should know about your cholesterol level.
Your Body Actually Needs Cholesterol
Cholesterol actually has health benefits which your body needs. Cholesterol helps to make key hormones, synthesizes vitamin D, is an essential component of cell membranes and is needed for brain and nerve function. The problem, however, is when the level of cholesterol in the body is excessively high.
There’s Bad Cholesterol and Good Cholesterol
Cholesterol is carried through the body by high-density lipoproteins (HDL) and low-density lipoproteins (LDL). LDL is considered the “bad” cholesterol because it deposits plaque in your arteries; HDL is considered the “good” cholesterol because it transports bad cholesterol from your batteries back to your liver, where it is removed from the body. Typically, a high LDL cholesterol poses a greater risk of heart disease, while high HDL is protective against heart disease.
Genetics and Diet Can Cause High Cholesterol Levels
High cholesterol can be caused by your diet and it can also be inherited. Some people inherit genes that cause their bodies to make too much LDL, and eating foods that are high in saturated and trans fat (like cheese, red meat, fried foods etc.) can also raise LDL.
Physical Activity
Remember the saying, “Your body has so many joints, because it was made to move”? There’s no truer saying. Aside keeping you fit, physical activity helps boost HDL and flush bad LDL out of your system.
Eat Some Nuts
Nuts and olives are the two main foods believed to contain nutrients that help to stop LDL from damaging arterial walls.
Regular Checks
It’s recommended that everyone age 20 years old and older should have their cholesterol level measured at least one every five years.

Silence From Buhari’s Aides As President Recuperates In London
President Muhammadu Buhari may have been in and out of hospital since
arriving London to see his doctors exactly a fortnight ago, if feelers
from Abuja House – the official residence of the Nigerian High
Commissioner to the Court of St James’s – where he is staying, is
anything to go by.
But this could not be confirmed as The Guardian has met a wall of silence from sources close to Abuja House, with two of them citing fears of losing their jobs, if they dare say anything. One source kept sealed lips and only took occasional glances at this reporter as he approached him yesterday afternoon.
A prominent aide of the president who had in February, walked to this reporter at the entrance of the property and called him “an educated illiterate,” before then saying: “if you want the president dead, you will be disappointed. The president will make a full recovery,” shunned The Guardian when asked for the where about of the president as he was driven out shortly after 1:00pm.
About 10 minutes before then, one other notable aide had arrived and also did not respond to greetings of “afternoon sir, afternoon sir,” before entering the staff quarters. But when he came out later and was going towards the main house, The Guardian repeated same and his only response was “how are you, journalist,” before going in to probably see the president.
Another aide was similarly approached, he only nodded and waved.
All the four sources contacted declined commenting or saying anything about the president’s recovery, however, one regular guest said, “whether he has seen his doctors or not, l don’t know,” when asked about the president’s recuperation. Pressed further, he said, “honestly, l have not seen the President since he came back, “ again on medical vacation.
Two staff members on the payroll of the High Commission told The Guardian the same thing. One said, “
I’m sorry, l cannot say anything to you.” Though the second noted that they have been “busy,” since Buhari arrived, but wouldn’t go further, except to show fear of “losing my job.”
One female staff member when asked yesterday if the president had come back from seeing his doctors, simply said “l don’t know about that.”
As if avoiding The Guardian, the aides and guests no longer use the main entrance to the house, once inside the property. Even on Sunday afternoon, when one arrived at about 3.40pm, the driver packed very close to the side entrance of the house rather than the front door, perhaps to prevent the reporter seeing anyone being driven out.
Even the security didn’t respond to continual pressing of the buzzer-both last week and yesterday.
However, the beautiful flowers used to adorn Abuja house weren’t silent. They did catch the attention of three Italian tourists as one of them took several shots as he walked past

We Will Resist Any Coup- Tinubu
National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu
The national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Monday, said that Lagosians will resist any coup plots, as it would not provide fertile ground for any undemocratic actions.
Speaking at a special parliamentary session to celebrate Lagos at 50 at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Tinubu, who noted that Nigeria has gone too far democratically to allow anti-democratic forces into its governance process, said that those enticing the military to come out of the barracks wanted to undermine the present democratic process.
According to him, the coup plotters "will not get ready buyers for their product," because a lot of people sustained injuries and sacrificed their lives for the country to have its present democracy. He, therefore, called on all those planning to stage a coup to move away from it and have a rethink.
Tinubu stated that it was clear that the welfare of the people and development of Lagos are of priority for the governor of Lagos, Akinwunmi Ambode and members of the House of Assembly, especially if the projects and activities within the state were spotlighted.
He noted that though there had been efforts to uplift the living standard of the people but there was still a lot more to be done, especially if the leaders and the people work together.
"As a state, we have shown that we can do great things to enhance the standard of living of our people. But we have so much more to do, to create opportunities and job for our people so that more people can witness more prosperity."
He commended the members of the House of the Assembly for being supportive, noting that while most public attention focuses on the executive, without the legislative, the executive is half strong.
For him, the partnership not tension is what is needed for the people to reap the fruit of democracy.
On his part, Ambode maintained that the Lagos 8th Assembly has been the benchmark for other legislative houses in Nigeria, saying it has been responsible and innovative in the discharge of its duties.
The Governor stated that it has been superlative in its performance and the success story of Lagos cannot be documented without the contribution of the leaders and members of the Assembly, past and present.
10 Habits That Makes You Age Faster
Although aging is inevitable, it is also accompanied
with several types of health problems like obesity. Type 2 diabetes and
cardiovascular disease.
In addition, as you age your skin becomes thinner and dry. This leads to wrinkles formation, increased pigmentation (hyperpigmentation), loss of elasticity and dull skin.
If you look in the mirror and discover that your body is showing aging signs sooner than you might expect. Several factors like environment, lifestyle and dietary factors may likely be the cause.
By taking proper care of your skin and overall health, and lifestyle modification can help you prevent premature aging.
This article looks at top 10 habits that make your skin age faster.
Habits That Makes You Age Faster
Alcohol is a known diuretic meaning when you take it in excess it causes dehydration. Dehydration decreases the skin natural moisture, which automatically makes you look pale and older than your age
Excess alcohol intake also depletes important nutrients especially vitamins A and C. These two vitamins are essential for maintaining vibrant and supple skin.
In addition, excessive alcohol intake also triggers rosacea outbreaks. Studies also show that high alcohol intake is associated with skin cancer.
A 2014 study published in Cancer Causes and Control reveals that high intake of alcohol, high intake of white wine or liquor were associated with increased risk of melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer (1).
However, this does not imply you cannot enjoy having a drink, just drink in moderation or occasionally.
2. Smoking
Habits That Makes You Age Faster
It is a known fact that smoking is linked to heart disease, infertility, bladder cancer, high blood pressure and lung cancer, but if none of this motivates you to ditch this habit, maybe vanity will.
Smoking is also known to accelerate aging process of the skin.
The toxic chemicals in cigarette smoke deprive your skin cells of oxygen, which leads to paleness, uneven coloring. It even stimulates the breakdown of collagen and cause loose and saggy skin.
A 2007 study published in the Journal of Dermatological science reveals that smoking tobacco accelerates skin aging. So if you are so much concerned about your physical appearance, you should quit smoking (2).
Another study in 2013 published in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery shows the facial changes caused by smoking between smoking and nonsmoking identical twins (3).
Whether you smoke or you spend time with a smoker, the smoke from cigarette is bad for your skin’s health.
By giving up on smoking and avoiding second hand smoke, you can restore your skin’s health and avoid premature aging
A 2010 study published in SKINmed Journal reveals that giving up on smoking rejuvenate skin conditions and skin-aging effects (4).
3. Stress
Habits That Makes You Age Faster
Stress, anxiety and constant worry takes a toll on your skin.
A 2012 study reveals that job-related stress can cause a harmful effect on DNA in your cells (5).
In another scenario, have you noticed that when you frown a lot you are feeling stressed which is not good for your appearance?
Over time, your facial muscle actually twitches and conforms to that movement. The ultimate result is wrinkles on the forehead which makes you look much older than your age.
As mentioned above, stress plays a vital role in initiating cascade of events that cause skin aging at the cellular level.
Stress accelerates the breakdown of collagen, DNA damage and also promotes the release of pro-inflammatory mediators (cytokines), which trigger premature aging.
A 2014 study published in Inflammation Allergy and Drug Targets reveals brain-skin connection and how the skin reacts to the stress level by activating the endocrine and immune systems, and the negative impact of chronic stress on skin’s health (6).
In addition, stress is also a risk factor for several chronic diseases including hypertension, obesity and cardiovascular disease
You cannot totally eliminate stress, but you can manage it and reduce its effect.
4. Too Little Sleep
Normally an adult needs at least 7 hours of sleep every night, and just one night of bad sleep can make you look and feel tired.
Bad sleep can even lead to dark circles and bags under your eyes. Now imagine what little or no sleep over a couple of days can do to your skin appearance.
Depriving yourself of sleep could cause skin damage in several ways.
First, it could increase your cortisol level, which can worsen inflammatory conditions.
Second, it can cause improper collagen formation, leading to skin aging.
A 2013 study by the University Hospitals Case Medical Center reveals that sleep quality has a direct impact on skin function and aging (7).
This study reveals that poor sleepers had increased signs of skin aging and slower recovery from several environmental stressors, such as UV radiation or disruption of the skin barrier.
Burning the midnight oil can be fun, but the effect is that it makes you look older than your age.
Importantly, avoid sleeping too long on one side of your face, as it could cause wrinkles and sleep lines.
5. Sunbathing
No matter how amazing the sun feels on your body, sunbathing or tanning is one of the worst things you can do for your skin.
Long-term exposure to excessive ultraviolet (UV) rays weakens your skin cells and blood vessels, which eventually causes a tanned, leathery looking skin. It can even lead to hyperpigmentation, reduced skin elasticity and degradation of skin texture, making your skin susceptible to bruising.
In addition, the risk of skin cancer is significantly higher due to excessive sun exposure.
Excessive UV exposure is likely to be responsible for signs of facial aging according to a study published in Clinical, Cosmetic and Investigational Dermatology Journal (
.
To make sure you protect your skin against exceccive sun exposure, protect your skin by wearing a hat, covering up with clothing and using sunscreen that is broad-spectrum, SPF 30 (or higher).
Also, remember to reapply sunscreen throughout the year especially on those hot summer days when you are constantly in and out of the pool.
However, if you have a sun-damaged skin, consult a doctor for proper examination.
6. Sedentary Lifestyle
Instead of being inactive and increasing your risk of obesity and other health problems, make exercise a part of your daily life.
Exercise helps tone your muscle and for proper blood flow to your skin, providing the necessary nutrients to the skin cells.
This makes you have a radiating and supple skin.
Exercise also helps combat heart disease, keeps stress at bay, fights brain fog, reduces inflammation, and prevents other chronic diseases that crop up with age.
Get out of your comfort zone and get moving. The American College of Sports Medicine guidelines recommends at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise most days of the week (9).
You can start with the activities you enjoy the most – walking, swimming, jogging, cycling, dancing etc.
7. Holding Grudges
In case you never knew, unforgiveness can make you age faster than you think.
Although most of us believes in forgiveness but we rarely practice it. Holding grudges against any one at any point in time is not good for your health and appearance.
Your inability to forgive adds more stress to your life which boosts your level of cortisol. Cortisol is a steroid hormone that leads to weight gain, hypertension and high blood sugar.
As mentioned earlier, stress leads to more frowning one of the key causes of wrinkles in the forehead.
A 2005 study published in the Journal of Behavioral Medicine reveals a correlation between unforgiveness and reduction in stress (10).
Stress has been implicated in various health problems and also contributes to aging.
Don’t allow grudges ruin your youthfulness. Forgiveness should be your watchword for better mental and physical well-being.
8. Feeding On Sugar
Habits That Makes You Age Faster
A sugar-packed diet is a one way ticket to obesity. Also, it can accelerate the skin-aging process and can also make your skin dull and wrinkled.
How does this happen?
There is a process known as glycation, in which sugar molecule attaches to and damage proteins like collagen and elastin. These proteins (elastin and collagen) are important to keep skin flexible and smooth.
A 2009 study published in PLoS Genetics shows a correlation between an increase in age-related diseases and over-consumption of sugar (11).
It is worthy of note that sugary drinks can lead to obesity, diabetes and heart attacks.
According to a 2014 study published in the American Journal of Public Health, consumption of sugary sodas may accelerate aging process (12).
Eliminating sugar from your diet is not an easy task especially if you have a sweet tooth.
However, you can try to avoid refined sugar and opt for natural fruits to satisfy your cravings.
Better still, you can try out dark chocolate, which is good for the health due to its high antioxidant content.
9. Eating Unhealthy Food
It is a known fact that food has a direct impact on how the skin looks and the overall health of the body.
You really need to pay great attention to your diet if you wish to delay your aging process.
Inflammatory foods such as magarine, red meats, white bread, sugary and processed foods should be avoided, at least to the barest minimum. These foods may cause inflammation, which will ultimately accelerate aging.
You should embrace foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids such as flaxseeds, flaxseed oil, avocados, olive oil and salmon. These foods help combat inflammation to prevent chronic diseases and keep your skin radiating and supple.
You should also incorporate fresh fruits and vegetables into your diets. Most fruits and vegetables are rich in minerals and vitamins like zinc, selenium, beta-carotene and vitamin C, which aid in the production of collagen.
Also, not forgetting protein rich foods, as low protein intake can cause tears, winkles and cracks in the skin. Protein-rich foods include eggs, lean meat, poultry and legumes.
Very importantly, say no to junk and try to prepare your meal. The unhealthy levels of sodium, fat and cholesterol in junk foods are not good for your overall health including your skin.
Lastly, do not underestimate the power of hydration. Drink enough fluid to prevent dehydration and enjoy younger looking skin.
10. Improper Skin Care
If you want to have a healthy and flawless skin, it is pertinent to follow a proper skin-care routine.
Different skin type adapts to different skin treatments, thus it is necessary to know your skin type and the type of treatment suitable for your skin.
Irrespective of your skin type, endeavor to wash your face twice daily as well as after exercise or whenever you are sweating.
Sweating causes skin irritation and can cause skin disorders like eczema. By gently washing off or taking a proper bath, will remove dirt, makeup and other substances that may cause skin irritation.
Very importantly, don’t go to bed with your makeup. The chemicals in makeup can block skin pores leading to aging skin. And also please, minimize your makeup if you wish to prevent premature aging.
Also, ensure you exfoliate your skin gently at least once a week to get rid of dead skin cells. Moisturize your skin for a youthful appearance.
Endeavor to use the right make up products for your skin type.
Don’t use conventional skin-care products, as they contain sulfates, parabens and phthalates – these chemicals have the potentials of altering your hormones and accelerate aging.

Monday Igbuya And His Thugs Chase Okowa From Project Site
Sacked Delta Speaker,
Igbuya, Leads Thugs To Chase Gov. Okowa From Project Site
In Sapele.
Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa was, on Tuesday, prevented from commissioning a road project in Sapele by thugs led by Mr. Monday Igbuya, the recently impeached Speaker of the state legislature.
Mr. Okowa, his deputy, Mr. Kingsley Otuaro, and other top government functionaries were in the area to commission the road and inspect other projects as part of activities marking the second anniversary of his administration.
But Mr. Igbuya, leading a band of thugs, invaded the venue and chased away the governor and his entourage.
The governor, his deputy, the newly elected Speaker of the House, Mr. Sheriff Oborevwori; his deputy, Mr. Friday Osanibi, and other dignitaries had taken their seats in readiness for the event when Mr. Igbuya arrived with his thugs to start a protest.
The governor had to be quickly moved away from the venue. Members of his entourage also fled, leaving the venue for thugs believed to be loyal to the new Speaker and the legislator representing Warri North Constituency, Mr. Michael Diden (alias Ejele), to provide a counter-force.
Some Sapele youths and members of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were also present at the venue, where they chanted “Sheriff Oborevwori is our Speaker, Sheriff Oborevwori is our leader.”
A young man, who claimed to be Mr. Igbuya’s supporter, told SaharaReporters that the protest was against the removal of Mr. Igbuya from office by 22 of the 29 members of the House.
"The protest is against Okowa because we know he was behind the impeachment of Igbuya and we can't allow such a person to visit Sapele to do anything. The governor was lucky that he was not attacked. Mr. Igbuya remains the Speaker of the House whether they like it or not. What you saw was child's play. The whole world will hear when we storm the Government House to continue our protest," the visibly angry youth said.
Reacting to the development, a PDP youth leader in Sapele, Mr. Sunny Nwankego, described the incident as unfortunate, blaming it on the youths’ inability to understand that Mr. Igbuya’s reinstatement could not have been true because the House has not yet sat.
"Some misguided and ill-informed supporters of the ousted speaker were celebrating last night at his hotel, claiming that he has been reinstated. To tell you how gullible they are, they do not understand that Igbuya was impeached and suspended for three months. Since then, the House has not sat. Where and when did members sit to lift Igbuya’s suspension and reinstate him as Speaker?" asked Mr. Nwankego.
The belief that Mr. Igbuya has been restored to his previous position was apparently induced by a rumor that Mr. James Ibori, the convicted former governor of the state, had intervened on his behalf.
This, however, was denied by Mr. Ibori, who said his name was just being dropped by Mr. Igbuya’s supporters.
PDP Crisis: Makarfi Group Advises Aspirants To Defect
The division in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) got to a head yesterday, with the Ahmed Makarfi group telling its supporters to seek other platforms for their ambitions.
The group is battling for the soul of the former ruling party with the Ali Modu Sheriff court-backed leadership. The Supreme Court is to settle the crisis.
It advised the state chapters to choose any available alternative platform to field candidates in the forthcoming council elections in Lagos and other elections across the states.
There are also by–elections coming up in many states.
The PDP crisis has remained intractable in spite of the decision of the Court of Appeal to recognise Sheriff as national chirman.
A report by Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson’s peace panel recommending Sheriff to conduct a convention was rejected by the Makarfi group.
Former President Goodluck Jonathan’s intervention failed as the meeting he called ended in a fiasco.
Members are now awaiting the outcome of the appeal by the Makarfi group at the Supreme Court, which has invited the two groups to present their addresses.
Spokesman of the Makarfi Group Prince Dayo Adeyeye said the directive on members to seek public offices on other platforms became imperative owing to an alleged plot by the Sheriff leadership to frustrate those it described as genuine PDP candidates elections.
He said there was the need for the party to take precautions to avoid a situation where its candidates would be frustrated by the antics of the Sheriff leadership , as was the case during the governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states. .
He added that with the case of the party’s leadership crisis still pending before the Supreme Court, the Sheriff leadership had continued to cause distractions and confusion in the chapters.
”It is also important to state at this point that Senator Sheriff and his cohorts have been creating factional chapters in different states of the federation in order to compromise our chances in the local government elections.
”In the circumstances and with no hope of the Ali Modu Sheriff problem abating before the Supreme Court judgment, we are left with no choice than to consider ways by which our members will not be disenfranchised in these elections.
”However our position is not to choose a platform for any state where true PDP candidates are denied the opportunity to stand for the elections. State chapters are allowed to take any decision they consider appropriate”, Adeyeye stated.
The Makarfi camp expressed the optimism of a “positive outcome” of the case pending before the apex court, stressing that in collaboration with the various organs of the party, the case would be seen to its logical conclusion.
“We have a good case and our ground of appeal is solid. We believe ultimately that justice will be served on the leadership issues in our party and we are also confident that the judiciary will continue to remain independent, unbiased and neutral”, the statement added.
But, the party’s Deputy National Chairman Dr Cairo Ojougboh, said the Makarfi group had no authority to issue such directive.
Ojougboh said the ‘caretaker committee’ was not recognised and therefore, an illegal body.
“As far as we are concerned, we are one family and whatever problem we have in PDP we should not wash our dirty linen in the public.’’
He said the PDP had conducted successful local government elections in Ebonyi, which was signed by Sheriff, and that it was currently preparing for elections in Cross River and other states.
He added that all the party’s primaries were open to PDP members.
“PDP is an embodiment of great Nigerians, including our governors, who are performing very well in their various states and our youth organisations all across the states.
“What surprises us is that Makarfi claims he has a strong appeal at the Supreme Court when the Court of Appeal has made it clear that he disobeyed the order of court in Lagos and Abuja.
“Is Makarfi expecting that the law will be re-written for them, to suit their personal interest?
“By their attitude they are still unrepentant. We implore them to have a change of heart and return to the fold so that we can adequately prepare to return to power in 2019,’’ Ojougboh said.
He added that the door of peace was still open to Makarfi-led group, advising, however, that they could go back to Seriake Dickson’s reconciliation committee’s recommendations.
I Will Dump PDP If Sherrif Wins At The Supreme Court – Fayose
Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has said that he will dump the People’s Democratic Party
if the Supreme Court ruling does not favour the Makarfi-led caretakercommittee in the leadership face-off with Sherrif.
According to a media report by Channels TV, Fayose said this to newsmen on Tuesday while reacting to media reports that he had removed the name and logo of the PDP from his campaign office and mini signposts mounted on Ado and Ikere-Ekiti roads.
Fayose, however, stated that he remains a bona fide member of the PDP until the outcome of the court ruling.
Despite reconciliation efforts, the governor has stated several times that he does not recognise Senator Ali Modu Sheriff as the party’s leader.
On February 17, a Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt had ruled that the caretaker committee headed by Senator Ahmed Makarfi was illegal and could not act on behalf of the PDP.
Meanwhile, the governor also met with youths in the state where he called for more support for his administration and enjoined them to come out en masse on May 19 to honor the late former Governor of the Southwest region, Gen. Adeyinka Adebayo
